Last Week

Last week was a crazy one! In my job, there are certain times of the year that are just so exceptionally busy. The first two weeks of the Spring Semester are always busy (and I always forget). There are loads of good reasons for it, but — well, I suppose I should start by introducing who I am during the ‘work-week hours’...

I am an Academic Advisor for Engineering Students (a sentence that is often received with an extra-high, eyebrow raise). Of course it was not what I expected of my career either, but I do find it rewarding. The objective of my job is to support students as they navigate through their first year at a very academically rigorous college.

I get to help people for a living!

And, I am pretty cool with that.

The first week of the Spring semester is when I spend a lot of time adjusting schedules, giving pep-talks, and generally welcoming students back to campus. I certainly try to be as accessible as possible, especially as this is one of those times where so many students want to touch base - even for a quick chat to make sure they are organized.

Of course, there is only one of me, so I am learning how to be patient during these busy times when it comes to my art and my business. It is all day communication, on all mediums, with all sorts of people, and all levels of need/urgency/intellect. By the end of the day, I’m truly exhausted and my brain no longer works. It is acceptable that I do not produce as much artwork during these times. It’s hard to think through my big goals, and the small steps needed to reach them. In fact, I am happy that I have been consistent with posting updates this month!

Only a few more days, before I can create a plan to ensure progress through the rest of the semester. I want to have the energy to sign up for craft fairs, and farmer’s market. I will need the energy to create products and new artwork.

Anyway, that was my week!

How was your’s?

xxx Kristin
